Metalfoam.net - Newsletter No. 6 ================================ 1) MetFoam2003 conference 2) MetFoam2001 conference proceedings 3) Eurofoam2002 conference 4) Light Metal days in Ranshofen 5) New companies producing aluminium foam 6) Jobs in metal foam industries and at institutes -------------------------- 1) The 3rd International conference on Cellular Metals and Metal Foaming Technology will be held from 23 to 25th June 2003 in Berlin (Germany). This conference will be a follow-up of the 1st and 2nd International Conferences held in 1999 and 2001 in Bremen which attracted 150 and 200 participants, resp., and covered a wide field of scientific and industrial activities. The scientific committee includes (in alphabetical order): - John Banhart, Berlin, Germany - Hans-Peter Degischer, Vienna, Austria - David Dunand, Evanston, USA - Norman Fleck, Cambridge, UK - Andreas Mortensen, Lausanne, Switzerland - Hideo Nakajima, Osaka, Japan - Robert Singer, Erlangen, Germany - Haydn Wadley, Charlottville, USA There will also be an industrial advisory board. A web site will inform about the details (deadlines etc.): http://www.metalfoam.net/metfoam03.html -------------------------- 2) MetFoam2001 conference proceedings MetFoam2001 conference proceedings are available now. They cover the entire field of cellular metals and metal foams. See table of contents and ordering information under http://www.mit-verlag.de/b111.html -------------------------- 3) Eurofoam 2002 The 4th European Conference on Foams, Emulsions and Applications will take place from 7 to 10th July 2002 in Manchester (UK). There will be a session on Metal Foams. The conference web site is http://www.meeting.co.uk/eurofoam2002. -------------------------- 4) Light Metal Days (Leichtmetalltage) in Ranshofen This 2nd workshop on light metals (in German language) is organised by the Austrian LKR Research centre and includes talks on metal foams (other topics: casting, alloy development, joining technologies) The conference web site is: http://www.lkr.at/lmt2002/ -------------------------- 5) While the idea of using cellular aluminium is spreading now and new application ideas are being generated, new companies start producing cellular materials. We give three examples of such start-up companies today. Jiangsu Tianbo Lightweight Materials Ltd., Nanjing, China * established 2000, close links to Southeast University with the group of Prof. He, experience in foaming melts with blowing agents and in casting using removable space holders * Products: open and closed cell aluminium foam * Tianyuan West RD. Jiangning, Nanjing, P.R. China, Fax: +86-25-2101103 Innovativer Werkstoffeinsatz (IWE) Greifswald (Germany) * established 2000, small start-up, 9 employees, with links to the local polytechnic university in Stralsund, * have produced small shaped parts of Al foam in the order of 3000 pieces and larger parts for nautical applications * Products: closed cell foam, complex shaped structural foam parts (trade name: ALUPOR) * Muehlenstr. 1 17489 Greifswald Germany * Fax: +49 - (0)3834 - 855532 Korea Metalfoam, Korea * established 2000 * Products: open cell foam, porosity 9095% * http://www.metalfoam.co.kr and , finally, there is a new dealer for Alporas Foam in Germany: Gleich GmbH * Postbox 1261 24560 Kaltenkirchen Germany * alporas@gleich.de * http://www.gleich.de -------------------------- 6) To the younger scientists: please note that the "jobs" section of our webpages (http://www.metalfoam.net/jobs.html) offers several opportunities in R & D. All opportunities are still open. This was today's news.
